1990 Happy Meal Toys (UK)

The 1990 Happy Meal toys range reflects a transitional period for McDonald’s in the UK, when toy promotions were still relatively occasional rather than a regular feature. While the Happy Meal had been introduced a few years earlier, consistent themed releases were only just beginning to take shape. 

This year included a small but varied selection of promotions, from original concepts to early licensed tie-ins, helping to lay the groundwork for the more frequent and diverse releases that would follow in the early 1990s. Notably, McRobots is considered the first Happy Meal toy set of the year, even though promotions at this stage were not yet running continuously.

Also included here is the Flyers promotion, which was not strictly a Happy Meal release. These discs were given away free with any food or drink purchase, but are featured for completeness as part of the wider McDonald’s toy offerings available at the time.
