The Sports Buddies set was inspired by a similar range of McNugget Buddies toys released in the United States in 1989, adapting the interchangeable character concept for a sports-themed line-up.

Each figure is made from semi-hard rubber and comes with two accessories. The parts are interchangeable across the set, allowing different combinations of hair, shoes, or belts to create a variety of looks and sporting styles.
