Sonic the Hedgehog

The Sonic the Hedgehog promotion was released to coincide with the animated cartoon – Sonic the Hedgehog, which was itself based on the hugely popular video game franchise from Sega.

The set featured Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik, with most of the toys being identical to a set released in the United States in 1994. The exception was Tails, whose design was modified for the UK release to meet safety requirements.

Each character included its own action feature. Sonic is a two-piece, spring-loaded toy that shoots forward when the button is pressed. Dr. Robotnik is a wind-up figure that travels in a large circle, while Knuckles spins around when pushed along. Tails is a two-piece toy with a pull-through mechanism that causes him to spin.

Released at the height of Sonic’s popularity, the set brought together some of the franchise’s best-known characters in a range of fast-moving and interactive toys.
