The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid Happy Meal promotion was released to coincide with the UK cinema release of the Disney animated film, based on the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Reflecting the film’s underwater setting, all of the toys were designed for use in water, adding an interactive element to bath time play.

The set included a variety of character-themed features – Ariel was a solid floating figure, Eric sat in a yellow boat, Flounder functioned as a water squirter, and Ursula was a solid figure with a suction pad that could be attached to a bath tub. These toys are identical to a set released in the United States a year earlier.

A later Happy Meal promotion also appeared in 1998 to tie in with the film’s re-release, introducing the characters to a new generation.
